The competition was an initiative of Reykjavik Municipality to create greener housing for the future. The brief focused on the use of renewable materials, minimising cement and creating a liveable neighbourhood for its future residents.

The plot, centrally located in Reykjavik, is an open area next to the Icelandic Meteorological Office headquarters, where the weather meters have been located for decades. The meters have been moved, thus giving space to densify a popular residential neighborhood in the city.

The proposal consists of a varied, yet simple, building volumes that create a dense and lively neighbourhood for people of all ages and families of all shapes. A lush green public space surrounds the buildings and in between the housing blocks low-speed urban streets accommodate active groundfloors and urban life.

More information on the project coming soon.
